VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.

For more than a decade the Capital Area Pharmacy Association has been supplying pharmacists to the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic, an organization who's mission is "to help the most vulnerable have access to high-quality healthcare and prevention education."

Each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-9/9:30 p.m. a pharmacist from CAPA helps with this mission. There are two pharmacy technicians who regularly staff the pharmacy manage the workflow and computer system of the pharmacy. Volunteer pharmacists verify prescriptions. Response from students, technicians, and pharmacists across Austin was so great the clinic added an additional volunteer position to the pharmacy in 2009 called the Pharmacy Volunteer. This added tremendously to the efficiency and productivity of the pharmacy.

If you are a pharmacy student, pharmacy technician, or pharmacist and would like to volunteer or have questions/concerns, please fill out this form HERE.

The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic is located at 4215 Medical Parkway, Austin TX 78756 (Near 43rd Street and North Lamar Blvd). Their website is located here

Project Collaborate, a student-run initiative at the UT College of Pharmacy, gives UT pharmacy students the experience of screening underserved patient populations through services including blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, waist circumference, height, weight, and HbA1c.

Their mission is “to provide quality health screening and education services to underserved citizens of Texas, provide a means for student pharmacists to enhance their patient interaction and clinical skills, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and advance the profession of pharmacy.”

To continue their mission, they are in need of pharmacist preceptors to volunteer at health screening with the duties of interacting with patients, counseling patients on medication use and healthy lifestyle habits, and overseeing student volunteers. Pharmacists and students also work together with patients to develop individualized action plans to help patients reach their health goals.

If you are interested in precepting, please email Project Collaborate (utprojectcollaborate@gmail.com) with the

following information: your name, phone number, email and location of practice or click HERE. Please know that preceptors are required to be recognized by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

Lending your expertise to Project Collaborate will allow this program to grow and serve a wider

scope of patients. Please consider helping out if possible!
